Frequently Asked Questions

What is microsuction and why is it better than syringing?

Microsuction has been proven to be one of the safest ways to remove earwax. We use a suction tube attached to a machine that will slowly dislodge and suck out any earwax. A microscopic endoscope is used to view the ear canal in order to avoid performing the procedure blindly, as opposed to syringing which is often used in some GP practices. If you want to find out more about why we believe microsuction is the best option check out our recent blog where we discuss the topic in more detail.

How much do you charge?

Our prices start at £80 per person for home visits to remove the earwax of one or both ears and £65 for one or both ears for an in-clinic appointment. If there happens to be no wax present or in the unlikely event that we are unable to remove the wax, we will charge a consultation fee of £30. We will arrange a suitable time and date with you before booking the appointment.

Are you able to see children?

Yes, we are able to see children over the age of 6. We offer a specialist service for children to provide a safe and comfortable environment for their ear wax removal procedure. To find out more or if you have questions please get in touch with one of our team who is more than happy to help.

Is it painful? How long does the procedure last?

Microsuction is relatively pain-free and we can stop the procedure anytime should it become uncomfortable. Sometimes hard wax can be painful when removed, therefore, we advise you to soften the earwax with olive oil before the appointment, thus making it easier to remove. Using the iClear endoscope means we are able to target the wax more effectively with precision, therefore, causing less or no pain to the ear canal. Depending on the amount of wax and consistency, it can take a few minutes to half an hour. We will perform the procedure with care and will not rush.

I have had ear surgery in the past? Will this affect the procedure?

Please let us know when enquiring if you have had previous ear surgery and we will assess if it is appropriate for us to perform the procedure.

What should I do in preparation for the appointment?

You should use olive oil eardrops or sodium bicarbonate eardrops to soften the wax a few days before the appointment as this will make it easier to remove the earwax. If you have an ear infection or a perforation to your eardrum, you should NOT use these products and consult your GP for medical advice.

Do you provide group bookings?

We are able to provide group bookings within the clinic and for home visits, providing that you are all in one location. We are also able to offer it at a discounted fee. Please contact one of our team to find out more.

Will you travel to my area? I do not live in Haringey or Enfield?

Based on your location, we can advise if it is possible for us to visit. We will base the charge on your location

Do you provide emergency same day appointments?

We do offer emergency same-day appointments but please contact us for availability.

How Often Can You Have Ear Microsuction?

You can have ear microsuction done as often as is necessary as it is a safe and minimally irritating procedure. The production of ear wax can vary from person to person; those who have an excessive build of wax may need to visit the clinic every 3-12 months, so it's important to have your ears cleaned whenever you experience symptoms of blockages.

What is Ear Wax Microsuction?

Ear wax microsuction is the procedure of removing excess ear wax build-up which is causing a blockage in the ear canal. Microsuction uses a specialist suction tube which is attached to a suction machine to comfortably and slowly dislodge and remove any ear wax. To find out more about ear wax microsuction visit our service page where we discuss all about it.
